PICKING BLUEBERRIES

This summer has had an unusually rainy start, which has pros and cons.  The major pro is that it has not been as hot this year, and so, as we looked at the weather this morning to see whether or not we wanted to head to the blueberry field, it looked quite promising.  Warm, but not face-melting want-to-die-in-a-puddle hot, which is about the best we can hope for in June in AR.

We loaded the babies into a stroller, and both girls set off to pick berries.

Both girls did a great job picking berries, and Lily took it upon herself to "take care of" Bella by making sure she didn't wander too far in the field.  Precious girls.

John picked a little, but mostly, he walked the stroller with the babies who wanted to keep moving.  Not that I can blame them entirely, but they (especially Violet) cried whenever the stroller stopped.  You can just call us the Murderers of Peace wherever we go.

We walked through the blackberry field - staying in the shady party.  Not many blackberries were ripe yet, because they haven't gotten enough sun yet this year.  Days like today ought to remedy that for them.

We ended up with about a quart and a half this year, plus some picked flowers.  We did our group shot in front of the blueberries - I love having the same pictures from each year to look back on!

Here are past years' pictures with links to their blog posts!

It is wild to see how much one year changes things.  I've realized that the twins are at the sort of difficult age of nothing being that fun for them, unless they are getting one-on-one attention playing with an adult.  William and Violet are pretty easy going, but I do look forward to a time when things will be more fun for them as well.  However, I don't want to wish any of it away.  Looking back at these last several years of pics is a good reminder of how very quickly it goes.  Bella was JUST that baby girl being carried on John's back, and today, she was picking out perfectly ripe berries all on her own.  Their childhood is literally zooming past right in front of me.

So glad I get a front row seat.  It is berry fun.  Most of the time.
