We have always really liked the front door at our house, except for one thing - it felt like we were in a little bit of a fish bowl. I mean, I know we are the John and Carol Show, but we do not want to be on display in our living room. When our community group was over last night, one of our friends actually said, "Now John can run across the house to get ice cream in his boxers." To which he said, "No, now no one can see me when I do that." Which is nice.
The great thing is that it is all clear glass, so the light still comes pouring in. We briefly considered doing images of our faces in stained glass, but decided to go with Mike's design for our doors instead. Here's Mike getting ready to caulk them in and asking me if I am going all "bloggerazzi" on him (his clever term - not mine). I think he secretly likes it.
A couple of months ago, we added these lions to our door that we got at a flea market in Italy a couple of years ago. (I should blog pictures from that trip sometime - it was spectacular!) I have had a love affair with lions since reading the Chronicles of Narnia as a child and have always wanted to have them on my front door. Thanks, John, for making that dream a reality!
I love the hammered glass, and the beveled square in the middle makes me feel like my door is wearing jewelry. Also, you can look through the little squares to see what is going on outside.
All in all, I love the way it turned out - thanks super talented brother!
Up next, it may be time to get something to replace the topiaries, since they are losing leaves. Hmm . . . Suggestions anyone?
