As I was thinking about what could be fun, I decided to steal from another holiday's tradition and create an "advent" calendar of sorts. But with this one, every day would have a different aspect of God's love to learn about. Here is what I made.
And, you can make one too! Here is what you need - though, the good news is, this project is highly adaptable to whatever you have on hand or whatever you want it to be. I used a plaque that came from the Hobby Lobby Valentine section that already had a ribbon hanger on it. It was $4.99 before the discount.
I decided to paint "God is LOVE" on mine. First, I went and located a new cute font and installed it on my computer. It is "Roskrift Clean" (who names fonts?), and I downloaded it from Fonts 101 and printed out the text on an regular piece of paper.
Then, I used the same transfer method that I showed off when making the Dot Painted Plates. Color over the back of your printed page using a heavy graphite pencil. (A regular pencil might work as well - I haven't tried it.)
Then, tape the page in place over the plaque.
Trace over the edges of the lettering using a ball point pen.
Once you are finished, take off the paper, and your outline will be left on the plaque.
Then, use a small paint brush and paint inside the lines. A different, blockier font would definitely be easier to paint, but I did like the way this one came out.
Then, it was time for me to find 14 descriptions of love. I focused mainly on 1 Corinthians 13, but sprinkled some in from other passages as well. Here's the list that I came up with.
- Love is Patient
1 Corinthians 13:4
- Love is Kind
1 Corinthians 13:4
- Love rejoices with the Truth
1 Corinthians 13:6
- Love never fails
1 Corinthians 13:8
- Love casts out fear
1 John 4:18
- Love sent Jesus
John 3:16
- Love edifies
1 Corinthians 8:1
- Love always hopes
1 Corinthians 13:7
- Love is fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22
- Love serves others
Galatians 5:13
- Love forgives
1 Corinthians 13:5
- Love bears burdens
1 Corinthians 13:7
- Love endures all things
1 Corinthians 13:7
- Love is not proud or rude
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
I formatted those into two separate columns and printed them out. If you want me to email it to you, I would be glad to - just leave a comment with your email if you want a copy.

I cut them into little rectangles using my handy paper cutter.

Since I wanted them hanging in a heart shape, I laid them out on the floor. You could do fewer attributes and/or let them hang randomly as well.
I tied a second piece of small string onto the bottom of the Baker's Twine that I was using to make a V-shape that would help stabilize the rectangles as they dangle from the sign.

Then, tape the Baker's Twine to the card, and measure it up to the place that you want it to hang from. I tried to stagger them a bit, but since I was aiming for a heart, there were not a ton of placement options.

Then, I used a handy dandy Command Hook to be able to hang all of the attributes on. There is one for every day in February leading up to the 14th.

My goal is to take one down each day and talk with Lily (and Bella, sort of) about the description of love to be learned about that day.
The other idea I shared was actually one from my childhood. My mom (with my dad's help!) made placemats for each of us. They had verses, our names and clippings of stuff that they felt represented us. Here is mine.

What I learned about myself as an almost 10 year old girl is that I loved cats, piano lessons, cheese dip and cookies, but most importantly, that my parents loved and valued me so much. We used these at a Valentine's dinner, and I have had it for years.
So, that is what I shared this morning at Bible Study. If you have any questions - please let me know!
