The past few weeks have found me oscillating between some vast extremes.  I have thought a lot about orphans and orphan care and what our family's role should be in that.  I have friends going through hard times and have been lifting them up in prayer.  I went to the event about sex-trafficking, and I have not been able to get the stories out of my mind.  Which is a good thing.  I don't want to skip over this real stuff that really matters.

It is heavy, and my mind is not able to process all of it all the time.  So, I have found myself mildly obsessed with sugar cookie decorating, planning Lily's 4th birthday party and the possibility of making terrariums.  Pretty random stuff, but it has been a nice and needed respite from the heavy.  Not to mention Christmas gifts, which I can't really mention, because I haven't done much in this department.

I made these cookies this week -

I love the song "O Holy Night" and thought it would be fun to create a cookie collection to go with it.  I tried my hand at royal icing for the first time, and I was pleased with how they look, but I am not a wild fan of how hard royal icing dries.  I think in the future I will continue using the glaze recipe that I love for the main part of the cookie and use royal icing for details, because it does do great detail work.

That was probably a lot more info than you wanted on sugar cookies.  (Unless you are like me and can read about sugar cookies in-depth.  I'm a bit of a weirdo like that.  If you want to - you should hit up this blog - she's amazing.)  I will spare you all talk of terrariums, but let me tell you - I am excited.  Miniature stuff is so much fun.

So, I have this strange dichotomy in my mind of heavy, but really important eternal things mixed with a lot of stuff that will have a short shelf-life.  I don't know where the lines are and how to balance things. I still have a lot of learning.  I guess really I need wisdom - the ability to know where to put my time and energy in ways that are pleasing to God.  I wish there was a playbook for that.

I am done accosting your Thursday afternoon with my musings.  Hope you are having a good week!
